Significance of Lecha Dodi

Updated: Dec 4, 2020

Introducing the #SignificanceSeries from @two.tall.jews_show and @onthisdayinjewishistory

We'll be creating a series of aspects within Judaism that are oft overlooked and digging into their significance.

To kick it off: Lecha Dodi, Come My Beloved. This is a prayer written in the 16th century that has been incorporated into nearly every Kabbalat Shabbat prayer on Friday night across the spectrum of Jewish communities all over the world.

Our co-host @mayogrammo shares insight on the significance behind the text and its context.

We hope you enjoy this weeks edition of the #SignificanceSeries. Have a topic in mind that we should do? Send us an email otd.jewishistory@gmail.com and we'll work to incorporate it.
