On 21–23 January 1941, members of the Iron Guard (Legion of the Archangel Michael) attacked Jews in Bucharest during their rebellion against Ion Antonescu. Synagogues, homes, and shops were wrecked. More than 120 Jews were murdered. Some bodies were dumped at the city slaughterhouse.
