On this day, a grenade thrown at a Peace Now demonstration in Jerusalem killed Emil Grunzweig. Peace Now records that the march had set out from Zion Square toward the Prime Minister’s office, calling on Menachem Begin to adopt the Kahan Commission’s recommendations, and that Yona Avrushmi threw the grenade. Nine other activists were wounded, among them Avraham Burg.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency identified Grunzweig as an immigrant and a mathematics teacher. The New York Times reported that thousands attended his funeral two days later.
