On this day, Franz Krausz was born in Sankt Pölten, Austria. Haaretz records that he became one of the formative graphic designers of the Jewish community in Mandatory Palestine, and that he is remembered for the 1936 poster “Visit Palestine.”

The poster was commissioned to encourage Jewish travel and immigration. It centers on the Dome of the Rock. Decades later it was reprinted and took on a second life as a Palestinian symbol. Krausz died in 1998.
