On this day, Israeli paratroopers entered the Old City of Jerusalem. The Knesset records that the order was given on 7 June 1967, that Mordechai Gur's brigade came in through the Lions' Gate, and that the soldiers raised the Israeli flag over the Western Wall.
A United Press report filed that day said the division of the city, in place since 1948, had ended.
