On this day, the Security Council adopted Resolution 242 unanimously at its 1382nd meeting. The resolution calls for withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict, and for an end to belligerency and respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of every state in the area, within secure and recognized boundaries.

It also calls for freedom of navigation through international waterways, a just settlement of the refugee problem, and a special representative of the secretary-general.
