In 1856, Aaron David Gordon was born in Troyanov, in Podolia. Later biographies give 9 June or 9–10 June; the exact day is not settled here.

He immigrated to Ottoman Palestine in 1904, during the Second Aliyah, and worked as an agricultural laborer at Petah Tikva and later at Degania. He taught that physical labor on the land was a redemptive act. He died at Degania on 22 February 1922.
