Avraham Sutzkever was born in 1913. Yad Vashem records that he died in Tel Aviv on 20 January 2010. The New York Times, reporting his death at 96, called him one of the great Yiddish poets of his generation and a witness of the Holocaust.
In Israel he founded and edited the Yiddish literary quarterly Di Goldene Keyt.
