On this day, Benzion Netanyahu died at his home in Jerusalem. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that he died early on the morning of 30 April 2012. He was 102.

He was born Benzion Mileikowsky in Warsaw in 1910 and immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1920. His scholarship included a biography of Don Isaac Abravanel and The Origins of the Inquisition in Fifteenth Century Spain. He taught in the United States and retired as professor emeritus at Cornell. As a student in Jerusalem he supported Ze’ev Jabotinsky. His son Yonatan was killed in the hostage-rescue operation at Entebbe. He was survived by his son Benjamin, then prime minister.
