On this day, Eta Wrobel was born in Łuków, Poland. USHMM also uses the spelling Lokov for the town. She was the only one of ten children in her family to survive the Holocaust.
In 1940 she worked as a clerk and forged identity papers for Jews. When the ghetto was liquidated in October 1942, she and her father escaped into the woods. USHMM records that she helped organize a Jewish partisan unit of close to 80 people. She was shot in the leg and cut the bullet out herself. The unit laid mines against German transport.
