In late July 1941, German authorities established a ghetto in the northwestern part of Minsk, occupied the previous month. USHMM records that about 80,000 people, including Jews from nearby towns, were crowded there. A field-commandant order of 19 July set the confinement in motion; later massacres and the 1943 liquidation are separate stories.

This article dates the late-July establishment, not later massacres inside the ghetto or the 1943 liquidation.
