On this day, Mordechai Alon attacked Egyptian bombers over Tel Aviv. Aviation accounts agree that he flew the Israeli Air Force's only serviceable fighter against two Egyptian C-47s and their Spitfire escorts. Egyptian bombers had been attacking the city.

The accounts do not agree on the result. One credits him with shooting both bombers down. Another says he damaged one aircraft, which landed on a beach and was later flown back to Egypt, and that the second bomber returned to its base.
