On this day, Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin were named the winners of the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize. President Jimmy Carter sent his congratulations on 27 October 1978. The Nobel Foundation's citation is for their having negotiated peace between Egypt and Israel in 1978.
The presentation in Oslo was on 10 December 1978. The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited the two framework agreements signed at Camp David on 17 September 1978.
