On this day, Theodor “Teddy” Kollek was born in Nagyvázsony, near Budapest. The Guardian records that his family later settled in Vienna and that he died on January 2, 2007.

He later served as mayor of Jerusalem. The Los Angeles Times records that his father named him for Theodor Herzl.
