On this day, German forces began the final liquidation of the Będzin ghetto. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum records the date as 1 August 1943 and says Zionist youth fought from bunkers, forcing the Germans to spend almost two weeks clearing the ghetto. The Jewish Historical Institute names Frumka Płotnicka among the fighters.

The World Jewish Congress dates an armed revolt during that liquidation to 3 August 1943.
